Each time after I spend several days in Las Vegas, I really feel the urge for some peace and quiet. At first I thought of shooting more pictures of the Las Vegas craziness & business but didn´t feel inspired. Instead my camera finger started itching as soon as I hit the road for Arizona to digest some of the ideas I got at this year´s WPPI conference.
Since I managed to get my hands on a nice Toyota 4×4 I hit the dirt roads in the Arizona desert. Peace & Quiet and adventure at the same time. Nice.
What I love about the American West is the vastness – that´s the one thing missing in Europe – space. Even though most land is private property and fenced off, this trip was also a personal journey of discovery for me as I found out that there are many “back country highways” – basically dirt roads that are just so much more fun to drive and give you a much deeper appreciation of the landscape than a highway with plenty of traffic.
I wonder why people prefer scenic drives on proper highways instead of spending some real peace & quiet in the back-country. What do you think? Which do you prefer?
