Ok, it´s important to not make fun of other peoples work. That said. The situation in Austria is such that there is a very restrictive system where you can only be a professional photographer when you pass a rigorous exam and become a “Meister” – according to the century old tradition of European craftsmen. So, what´s the problem you ask. Well, this has kept innovation out of the Austrian photography market for decades and usually people who are talented simply leave to find there fortunes outside of Austria. Secondly, the people who actually judge the exams are the people who have the most vested interest in keeping young talent out. What does all of that give you? I discovered this blog and it says it all. All photos on this blog are the work of professional photographers who are “Meister”. I´m still not sure if I want to laugh or cry when I think about this. Something has to change, let´s back the talent back to Austrian mainstream photography.
